US content creator praises Indian healthcare after recovery in Rishikesh, calls it ‘far superior’ to West
PTC Web Desk: An American travel content creator has sparked widespread discussion online after praising India’s healthcare system and calling it more effective and accessible than that of many Western countries.
Charlie Evans, who has been travelling across India for several months, recently shared a video recounting his experience of falling ill during his trip. The clip, posted on social media, quickly went viral and drew attention for his strong endorsement of Indian medical practices.
Evans said he had been living in India for about 148 days and had recently visited a hospital twice while recovering from an illness. According to him, the experience changed his perception of healthcare systems.
During his travels in Rajasthan, Evans began experiencing symptoms that he suspected could be strep throat. He admitted that he delayed seeking medical help until he returned to Rishikesh, a decision he later described as a mistake because healthcare services in India were easy to access.
Sharing his experience, Evans said he visited a local pharmacy and bought Ayurvedic lozenges known as Yogi Kanthika, which he used to soothe his throat. He also praised locally available cough drops, saying they felt more natural compared with similar products he had used in the United States.
Evans further highlighted how traditional remedies form an important part of everyday healthcare in India. He said many of his Indian friends suggested herbal treatments and home remedies that helped ease his symptoms.
According to Evans, the combination of modern medicine, traditional therapies and household remedies makes healthcare in India unique. He described the experience as an “eye-opener,” noting that people often have access to effective natural remedies even before visiting a pharmacy or hospital.
In the caption accompanying his video, he expressed gratitude for the country’s medical traditions, particularly the blend of Ayurveda and contemporary treatments.
The video has attracted more than 2 lakh views and hundreds of comments, with many users agreeing with his observations. Several commenters highlighted the affordability and accessibility of treatment in India compared with the United States, where healthcare costs and insurance expenses are often significantly higher.
Some social media users also pointed out that India offers a variety of treatment systems, including Ayurveda, homeopathy and modern medicine, giving patients multiple options for care.
