PTC Web Desk: In a plot twist no wedding planner could ever predict, a newly married couple ended up attending their own wedding reception virtually, all thanks to IndiGo’s nationwide magic trick where flights kept disappearing from the schedule.

Medha Kshirsagar from Hubballi and Sangama Das from Bhubaneswar,  two software engineers living in Bengaluru, tied the knot on November 23 in Bhubaneswar. Their grand reception was meticulously planned for December 3 at Gujarat Bhavan in Hubballi. But IndiGo had other plans.

Their journey, which should’ve been a simple hop across states, turned into a 24-hour suspense thriller. Starting Tuesday morning, their flights were delayed, postponed, reshuffled, and finally cancelled, courtesy of a crippling pilot shortage and some creative confusion over implementing Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms. Their relatives, travelling on similar routes, received the same ‘special treatment.’

With guests already seated and the catering paid for (no force on Earth can stop a buffet once it’s ordered), the bride’s parents gamely conducted the rituals on behalf of the missing couple. Meanwhile, Medha and Sangama logged in from afar, dressed in full wedding attire, turning the reception into what looked like the most festive corporate Zoom call in Indian history.

IndiGo, which normally operates around 2,200 flights daily, delivered a record-breaking performance by cancelling over 500 flights in one day. The airline predicts the turbulence will continue till December 8 and optimistically believes things might smoothen by February 10, 2026. No rush.
