Man who saved Rishabh Pant’s life attempts sui cide with girlfriend; she dies
PTC Web Desk: Rajat Kumar, the 25-year-old hailed as a hero for saving Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant’s life after a car accident in 2022, allegedly attempted suicide alongside his 21-year-old girlfriend, Manu Kashyap, by consuming some poisonous substance. The incident occurred on February 9 in Buchha Basti, a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district.
According to reports, the couple took the extreme step due to opposition from their families over their relationship. While Manu Kashyap tragically passed away during treatment, Kumar remains in critical condition at a local hospital.
Family members had reportedly arranged separate marriages for the two, rejecting their relationship due to caste differences. This societal pressure allegedly pushed them towards suicide. Following Manu Kashyap’s death, her mother filed a complaint, accusing Kumar of kidnapping her daughter and poisoning her.
Kumar first came into the national spotlight in December 2022 when he, along with local resident Nishu Kumar, rescued Rishabh Pant from a near-fatal car accident. Pant’s Mercedes collided with a divider and burst into flames while traveling from Delhi to Uttarakhand near Roorkee. The two factory workers acted swiftly, pulling Pant out of the burning vehicle and ensuring he received immediate medical attention. Their bravery was lauded nationwide, and Pant later gifted them scooters as a token of gratitude.
