On this day, sisters tie a sacred thread or rakhi on their brothers’ wrists and pray for their long life, happiness and prosperity. Brothers, in return, promise to stand by their sisters and protect them.
Raksha Bandhan is celebrated every year on the full moon day or Purnima Tithi, of the Shravan month. This year, however, the dates may cause some confusion as the Shravan Purnima Tithi falls across August 27 and 28.
According to the Panchang, the Shravan Purnima Tithi will begin at 9.08 am on August 27 and end at 9.48 am on August 28. So, when is Raksha Bandhan 2026? August 27 or August 28?

According to the Udaya Tithi, Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on Friday, August 28. The auspicious time for tying rakhi will be from 5:57 am to 9.48 am on August 28.
The Bhadra period will end before sunrise on Raksha Bandhan, so the morning rakhi ceremony can be performed during the given auspicious period.
