Woman's Rs 3,500 flight turns costly: Rs 2,000 Uber ride highlights Bengaluru's transport woes

PTC News Desk: A woman recently shared her travel ordeal on social media, shedding light on the exorbitant cost of an Uber ride from Bengaluru Airport to the city. Manasvi Sharma recounted her journey, which began with a flight from Pune to Bengaluru, priced at a reasonable Rs 3,500. However, upon landing, she faced a hefty fare of around Rs 2,000 for an Uber ride to her home.

In Bengaluru, infamous for its traffic congestion and limited public transport options, reliance on private cab services like Ola and Uber is common. Ms. Sharma's experience highlighted the stark contrast between the affordable flight ticket and the disproportionately high cab fare for the relatively short distance from Kempegowda International Airport to the city center.

Sharing a screenshot of Uber's fare estimates ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,700 for different cab types, Ms. Sharma expressed her dismay in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "I booked a flight for 3.5k from Pune to Bangalore. And then, a cab for 2k from Bangalore airport to my home."

Her post quickly garnered attention on social media, with many users expressing frustration and disbelief at the inflated prices. Some criticised Uber drivers for refusing to turn on the AC in lower-tier cab options, while others questioned the affordability of the service. Comparisons were drawn with other cities, such as Ahmedabad, where Uber rides are significantly cheaper, leading some to lament the high cost of transportation in Bengaluru. Others humorously suggested alternatives like bringing back horses for commuting.

Overall, Ms. Sharma's experience resonated with many who have encountered the challenges of commuting to and from Bengaluru Airport, highlighting the city's notorious traffic congestion and the need for more affordable transport options.
