India criticises China for issuing fourth list of 30 names for areas in Arunachal Pradesh

PTC News Desk: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) delivered a scathing rebuke to China on Tuesday for its attempt to rename several locations in Arunachal Pradesh, asserting that the act of assigning fabricated names will not alter the fact that the region is an integral part of India.

In a strongly worded statement, the MEA denounced China's actions as "senseless" and emphasised that Arunachal Pradesh will remain an integral and inalienable part of India. "We firmly reject such attempts. Assigning invented names will not alter the reality that Arunachal Pradesh is, has been, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India," the statement affirmed.

The Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs recently released a list of standardised geographical names in Zangnan, the Chinese term for Arunachal Pradesh, which Beijing lays claim to as part of south Tibet. This move, reported by the state-run Global Times, included the naming of 30 additional places in the region.

Reacting to China's actions, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar asserted on Monday that altering names would not change the territorial status of Arunachal Pradesh. "If I change the name of your house, will it become mine? Arunachal Pradesh was an Indian state, is an Indian state, and will remain so in the future. Nothing will be gained by changing names," he remarked.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also condemned China's efforts to rename areas within Arunachal Pradesh, asserting that such actions would not alter historical facts or ground realities. "Arunachal Pradesh is an inalienable part of India, and the people of Arunachal Pradesh are supremely patriotic Indians by all standards & definitions," he emphasized.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge echoed the sentiment, urging the BJP-led Central government to strongly condemn China's actions and reprimand the country. "When China resorts to provocation, PM Modi attempts to seek refuge by a false narrative on Katchatheevu! Even after at least 19 rounds of bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart, PM Modi has not able to use any diplomatic influence on China to stop this absurdity of ‘renaming’ Indian territories...The least Modi Govt can do is strongly condemn and reprimand China on these daily ludicrous actions and statements," Kharge stated.
