Zomato introduces 'pure veg mode' and dedicated vegetarian fleet; Deepinder Goyal joins delivery efforts
PTC News Desk: On March 19, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal unveiled the 'Pure Veg Mode' and 'Pure Veg Fleet' on the Zomato platform, catering specifically to customers with a 100 per cent vegetarian preference. This innovative feature is set to be gradually rolled out across India.
Goyal took to X to announce Zomato's latest offering, stating that it was developed in response to feedback from vegetarian customers. The Pure Veg Mode will exclusively showcase restaurants serving purely vegetarian cuisine. Moreover, orders placed through this mode will be handled and delivered by Zomato's Pure Veg Fleet, recognisable by their green delivery boxes.

The announcement generated significant buzz on X, amassing thousands of views and ongoing engagement in the comments section, where users shared their perspectives on the new initiative.
This feature will see a phased roll out across the country in the next few weeks. We remain committed to listening to our customers, and serving our community in the best possible way. — Deepinder Goyal (@deepigoyal) March 19, 2024
One user shared, "Thanks, once I got chicken in my veg food!"
Another commented, "True. Vegetarians prefer ordering from dedicated vegetarian restaurants, concerned about food handling practices. Are separate utensils and oils used?"
A third individual pondered, "Will it be a separate application, or will Zomato integrate the feature?"
A fourth user remarked, "Having worked in a 3-star resort, I know about cooking practices. Using non-veg cooked oil in vegetarian food is common, which can be off-putting for many."
