2 Indian students killed in New York car crash; consulate in contact with families
Two Indian students from Cleveland State University lost their lives in a tragic road accident in New York, the Indian Consulate confirmed on Tuesday. According to the reports, the victims have been identified as 20-year-old Manav Patel and 23-year-old Saurav Prabhakar.
The Lancaster County Coroner's Office stated that Prabhakar was driving the vehicle when the crash occurred on May 10 in East Cocalico Township. Both Prabhakar and Patel died at the scene, while a third passenger, seated in the front, sustained injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
While the exact cause of the accident is not yet known, CCTV footage showed the vehicle veering off the roadway, striking a tree before crashing into a bridge.
The Consulate General of India in New York conveyed its "deep sorrow" over the untimely deaths of two Indian students from Cleveland State University. In a post on X, the consulate stated that it is maintaining close communication with the students' families and providing them with all necessary assistance.
Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate road accident in which two Indian students from Cleveland State University, Manav Patel and Saurav Prabhakar, lost their lives," the consulate posted on X (formerly Twitter).
"Our thoughts and prayers are with their families during this difficult time. The consulate is in touch with the families and has assured them of all possible assistance," the statement said.
