2 killed, several injured as Mexican Navy ship rams into New York City's Brooklyn Bridge
PTC News Desk: A massive Mexican Navy ship with 277 onboard -- crashed into New York City's Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday leaving at least two dead and several injured.
The cause of the crash has not been ascertained yet.
"At this time, of the 277 on board, 19 sustained injuries, 2 of which remain in critical condition, and 2 more have sadly passed away from their injuries," New York City Mayor Eric Adams wrote on X. US officials added that none of the members onboard fell into the river.
Moments before and of crash were captured in a video that has been doing rounds on social media which shows onlookers standing at the harbour watching the ship Cuauhtemoc, decked with lights and carrying mostly cadets, before two of its 147-foot masts crashed into the bridge, snapping and subsequently collapsing.
The New York Fire Department reported that rescue efforts are in progress.
The Cuauhtemoc, a training vessel operated by the Mexican Navy, was scheduled to stop at 22 ports in 15 countries. The incident took place as the cadet ship was departing New York Harbour.
