Canada: Police find body of 'missing' Indian student near Assiniboine river

PTC Web Desk: The Canadian police have found a body near the Assiniboine river and the Highway 110 bridge, just east of Brandon city on Sunday, which it suspects it to be that of a student from Gujarat, who had been "missing" from a western Manitoba city since last week.

The student has been identified as Vishay Patel, though the identity of the individual is yet to be officially confirmed. Vishay Patel belonged to Gujarat. He was reported missing by relatives on the morning of June 16. He was spotted on home video surveillance while leaving his residence in a grey 2012 Honda Civic, The Brandon Sun reported.

However, his vehicle was found at a local Home Depot parking lot in the evening of the same day Patel went missing.

"On the evening of June 18 (Sunday), members of the missing person's family located clothing near the Assiniboine river and the Highway 110 bridge. A search of the area by emergency services personnel resulted in the discovery of a deceased male," a release by the City of Brandon said.

The release further added that the Office of the Medical Examiner would be continuing the investigation, though there were no signs of foul play.

It is learnt that the deceased had been attending Assiniboine Community College.
