Disturbing visuals surface as Israeli strikes on al-Mawasi kill over 90
PTC News Desk: The United Nations and Middle Eastern countries have condemned Israel's military attack on a designated humanitarian safe zone in Gaza, which killed at least 90 Palestinians and injured 300 more.
Visuals showed Palestinians digging through debris and what seemed to be tent ruins near the site of the attacks.
It's been a week of horrific suffering in Gaza.
On Saturday morning, the Israeli army carried out one of Gaza's deadliest massacres yet, killing over a hundred Palestinians, including children, and injuring hundreds more. Israel stated the target of Saturday's operation near al-Mawasi was Hamas commander Mohammed Deif, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said it was unclear whether the fighter was killed. Hamas called the assault's premise "false" and claimed that "defenceless civilians" were killed in the attack.
Israeli forces attacked a heavily populated area in Khan Younis' al-Mawasi neighbourhood, a tent sector designated by Israel as "a humanitarian safe zone" for displaced Palestinians, where over 80,000 people are seeking refuge. Horrific photos from al-Mawasi show dozens of bodies scattered on the ground in the aftermath of the atrocity, many of them medical staff who were shot by Israeli forces while rushing to rescue the injured.
Israel then carried out a second massacre, hitting a prayer in Gaza's Shati refugee camp and killing around 25 Palestinians. People's remains were scattered over the wiped-out area. "They massacred us while we were praying," one eyewitness claimed.
The massacres were carried out using US weapons. There are allegations that Israel used the five-hundred-pound bombs it acquired from the United States this week. According to the director of the military technology company Asgard, the missiles deployed in al-Mawasi were JDAMs manufactured in the United States. Other sources suggest that Israeli soldiers used US-made MK84 bombs weighing 2,000 pounds in al-Mawasi.
