PTC Web Desk: A 30-year-old Indian woman, Himanshi Khurana, was found dead inside a residential property in Toronto last week, following which Canadian authorities have initiated a homicide investigation. The Toronto Police Service has named 32-year-old Abdul Ghafoori, a Toronto resident, as the accused. A search warrant has been issued against him on charges of first-degree murder, and the police are actively seeking his whereabouts.

What police know so far

According to investigators, officers received a missing person complaint late on December 19 from the area near Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West. A search operation was launched and continued overnight. At around 6.30 am on December 20, the police located the woman’s body inside a nearby residence.

Following initial findings, authorities confirmed that the death was being treated as a homicide. The case was subsequently handed over to the Homicide Unit for further investigation. The deceased was later formally identified as Himanshi Khurana, an Indian citizen who had been living in Toronto.

Relationship between victim and accused

Police officials have stated that the victim and the accused were known to each other. Media reports in Canada, citing law enforcement sources, indicate that investigators are examining the incident as a possible case of intimate partner violence.

A Toronto Police spokesperson told local news outlet CP24 that Khurana and Ghafoori were in a personal relationship. The police have released the suspect’s photograph and appealed to the public for assistance in locating him.

Victim’s profile

Photographs shared by police correspond with images from a social media account under Himanshi Khurana’s name, where she identified herself as a Toronto-based digital content creator. Her online activity and background had earlier been reported by Canadian media.

Indian Consulate responds

Reacting to the incident, the Consulate General of India in Toronto expressed deep sorrow over Himanshi Khurana’s death. In a post on social media platform X, the consulate said it was “deeply saddened and shocked” by the killing of the young Indian national.

The consulate added that it remains in close coordination with Canadian authorities and is providing all necessary support to the victim’s family.

Meanwhile, the Toronto Police have once again urged anyone with information related to the suspect to immediately contact law enforcement.
