Israel conducts airstrikes at two Syria airports amid war with Hamas: Report
Airstrikes at Syria airports: In the first such attack since a Hamas attack on Israel, Israeli strikes targeted Syria's two main airports on Thursday, according to Syrian state television.
"Israeli aggression targets Damascus and Aleppo airports," state television said on Telegram, without providing any details.
Israeli airstrikes have constantly grounded flights at the airports in Aleppo and Damascus, both of which are controlled by the Syrian government.
The new strikes came as Hamas and Israel exchanged heavy fire for the sixth day in a row, after hundreds of Hamas fighters stormed across the Gaza border into Israel on Saturday, killing over 1,000 civilians.
They also came during the visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Israel, and only hours after Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, in a phone discussion with his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad, called on Arab and Islamic countries to work together to oppose Israel.
During Syria's more than a decade of war, Israel has launched hundreds of air strikes, largely targeting Iran-backed forces and Hezbollah fighters, as well as Syrian army sites.
Israel rarely speaks on individual strikes in Syria, but it has frequently stated that it will not allow its arch-foe Iran, which backs Assad's government, to increase its presence there.
Iran, which backs Hamas, praised Hamas' attack on Israel on Saturday, but it said it was not involved.
