'Canada is not your playground': Kapil Sharma gets threat from SFJ’s Gurpatwant Pannun after attack on cafe

PTC Web Desk: Actor-comedian Kapil Sharma has found himself in the crosshairs of pro-Khalistan separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) founder Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who issued a threatening video message warning Sharma to “take back his blood money to Hindustan” and declaring, “Canada is not your playground.”

Pannun, declared an “individual terrorist” by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs in 2019, accused Kapil Sharma of promoting “violent Hindutva ideology” under the pretext of running a business in Canada. He alleged that Sharma's newly launched restaurant, Kap’s Cafe, in Surrey, British Columbia, may be part of a broader strategy to expand Hindutva ideology under a commercial façade.

The threat came just days after a shooting incident at Kap’s Cafe, which had opened its doors on July 4. Shots were fired at the establishment on Wednesday night, though no injuries were reported. The attack was reportedly claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi and Toofan Singh, both alleged operatives of the banned terror group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), which is also designated as a terrorist outfit by the Canadian government. Laddi is on the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) list of most-wanted individuals.

In his message, Pannun raised provocative questions about the comedian’s intentions, saying, “Is Kap’s Café just a comedy venue or part of a larger plan to export Hindutva ideology? One business at a time?”

While Kapil Sharma has yet to publicly respond, Kap’s Cafe issued a statement on Instagram, expressing shock over the violent act but reaffirming their stand against intimidation and violence.

SFJ is outlawed under India’s Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for its persistent anti-national agenda. The Ministry of Home Affairs earlier highlighted that the group actively engages in subversive actions that threaten India’s sovereignty and democratic institutions. It has also been accused of maintaining ties with various militant organizations.

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun currently faces 104 cases across India, with several investigations being conducted by the NIA.
