Massive fire engulfs Gurdwara Sahib Dashmesh Darbar in Adelaide, Guru Granth Sahib saroops likely burnt
PTC News Desk: A massive fire broke out at the Gurdwara Sahib Dashmesh Darbar in Adelaide, South Australia, late on Sunday night, with fears that the Saroops of the Guru Granth Sahib may have been burnt in the blaze.
The management of the gurdwara said it is too early to confirm the condition of the Guru Granth Sahib saroop placed in the Palki Sahib, as the roof of the main prayer hall collapsed directly onto it. Teams are working to remove the debris, and the condition of the saroop will be known only after the roof is cleared.
Local authorities have started an investigation to find out what caused the fire.
According to the gurdwara management, the fire broke out in the langar hall kitchen at around 10:30 pm (Australian time). The flames spread quickly from the kitchen to the main prayer hall. The Sunday night diwan had ended around 9:30 pm, nearly an hour before the fire started.
The fire was extremely intense, with several explosions reported inside the langar hall. A large part of the gurdwara building collapsed within a short time because of the blaze.
Police and emergency services sealed off the area and did not allow community members to enter the gurdwara premises.
Although firefighters have now brought the fire under control, officials are continuing to assess the damage and investigate the cause of the incident. Meanwhile, the Sikh community is waiting for confirmation about the condition of the Guru Granth Sahib saroops.
