Pakistan nominates US President Trump for Nobel Prize for brokering truce with India
PTC News Desk: Pakistan government has formally nominated US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize citing his “decisive diplomatic engagement and pivotal leadership” during conflict with India.
The government issued a formal statement while praising Trump and called the engagement a critical intervention that led to ceasefire between India and Pakistan preventing what could have escalated into a full-scale regional war.
Pakistan claimed that "Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship by engaging both Islamabad and New Delhi at a critical moment". "His efforts led to a ceasefire that averted a catastrophic conflict,” the statement added.
The US President has on multiple occassions claimed the credit for brokering truce between India and Pakistan amid military strikes following deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack. On the contrary, New Delhi has denied any external intervention in the truce and maintained that the understanding was completely bilateral and that the discussions were held on the request of Islamabad.
Prime Minister Modi, in a phone call with President Trump earlier this week, also reaffirmed that no other nation was involved.
“This intervention is a testament to President Trump’s role as a genuine peacemaker and his commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue,” the statement added.
“True peace in the region would remain out of reach without the resolution of the Kashmir conflict in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions," the Pakistani government emphasised.
