PM Modi presents thoughtful gifts to Bidens: Symbolising friendship and collaboration
Washington, June 22: During his visit to the White House, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden with unique and meaningful gifts. The official gifts exchanged symbolized the warm bond between the leaders and their nations.
To President Joe Biden, PM Modi presented a handcrafted sandalwood box. The exquisite box contains a silver idol of Lord Ganesha, representing wisdom and good fortune, along with a diya (oil lamp), symbolising light and positivity. The sandalwood box reflects India's rich craftsmanship and cultural heritage.

For First Lady Jill Biden, PM Modi gifted a remarkable green diamond. Notably, this 7.5-carat diamond is eco-friendly, aligning with the global emphasis on sustainability. The diamond was thoughtfully presented in a box made of paper pulp, known as kar-e-kalamdani, showcasing India's eco-conscious approach to gifting.
In return, PM Modi received a special gift from the Bidens—a handmade, antique American book galley from the early 20th century. This unique item holds historical and artistic significance, representing the deepening cultural exchange between India and the United States.
Additionally, the first couple gifted PM Modi a vintage American camera, highlighting their shared appreciation for photography and capturing memories. They also presented him with a hardcover book featuring stunning American wildlife photography, showcasing the diverse natural beauty of the United States. A signed, first edition copy of 'Collected Poems of Robert Frost' was also included in the thoughtful gesture, reflecting the literary heritage of the United States.
PM Modi's arrival in Washington followed his record-setting yoga session at the United Nations headquarters in New York. During his visit to New York, he received a warm welcome and engaged in productive meetings with CEOs, intellectuals, and academics, further strengthening bilateral ties.
