PM Modi US visit | 'Pride for 140 crore Indians': PM Modi addresses the White House

PM Modi US visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a grand welcome at the White House from US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. Upon his arrival, national anthems of India and the US were played as a ceremonial gesture.

The Indian Prime Minister started his address at the White House by expressing gratitude towards President Biden for the warm welcome. 

‘First time the gates of the White House...’

During his address, PM Modi said that he has visited the White House multiple times. But this is the first time gates of the White House have been opened for the Indian-American community in such large numbers.

"I have visited the White House many times after becoming the PM. This is the first time the gates of the White House have been opened for the Indian-American community in such large numbers," PM Modi said.

"People of the Indian community are enhancing India's glory in the US through their hard work and dedication. You are the real strength of our relationship. I thank  President Biden and Dr Jill Biden for giving this honour to them," he added.

PM Modi on Talks with Joe Biden

PM Modi and President Biden are set to hold bilateral talks and discuss regional and global issues. "I am sure that our talks will be positive," he said.

'India, US must work together for world peace'

"In the post-Covid era, the world order is taking a new shape. In this time period, the friendship between India and US will be instrumental in enhancing the strength of the whole world. India and US are committed to working together for the global good and peace, stability and prosperity. the PM added.

"I along with the 1.4 billion people of India wish that India's tricolour and America's stars and stripes keep flying higher and higher," PM Modi said at the White House

Joe Biden Welcomes PM Modi

Welcoming the Indian Prime Minister, President Biden said, "I am honoured to be the first to host you here on a State visit: US President Joe Biden."

"The relationship between the US and India is one of most defining relationships in the 21st century," he added.

"With your cooperation, we have strengthened the QUAD for a free, open, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific. Decades from now, people will look back and say that the Quad bent the arc of history for global good," the US President said. 

Joe Bided further said, "India and US are working closely on eliminating poverty, expanding access to healthcare, addressing climate change and tackling food and energy insecurity triggered by the Russian war in Ukraine."

Ahead of his arrival, PM Modi took to Twitter and said, “Looking forward to today’s talks with @POTUS@JoeBiden. I am confident our discussions will further strengthen India-USA relations."
