Singapore tops 2025 Henley Passport Index; India ranks 80th

PTC Web Desk: Singapore has claimed the top spot as the world's most powerful passport, granting visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 193 out of 227 destinations, according to the 2025 Henley Passport Index. Meanwhile, India has secured the 80th position, offering easy travel to 56 countries.

Compiled by Henley & Partners using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the index assessed 199 passports worldwide.

South Korea and Japan share the second position with access to 190 countries, while seven European nations—Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Ireland, Finland, and Denmark—are tied at third place with visa-free entry to 187 destinations.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerged as the biggest winner, climbing from 32nd place in 2015 to 8th in 2025, now offering access to 184 destinations. China also made significant strides, moving up to the 59th position from 94th a decade ago, with visa-free access to 83 countries.

On the other hand, the United States, once a consistent second-place holder, has slipped to 9th with 183 visa-free destinations. However, Venezuela saw the sharpest decline, plummeting 42 places from 2nd in 2015 to 44th in 2025.

India shares the 80th rank with Algeria, Equatorial Guinea, and Tajikistan. Among its neighbours, Myanmar stands at 88th with access to 45 destinations, while Sri Lanka (91st) shares its position with Iran and Sudan, offering entry to 42 countries.

Bangladesh ranks 93rd, alongside Libya and the Palestinian Territories, while Nepal is at 94th. Pakistan, with access to just 34 destinations, sits at 96th, slightly ahead of Yemen.

Afghanistan remains the least powerful passport, ranking 99th with visa-free access to only 25 destinations—marking the widest mobility gap in the index’s 19-year history. Iraq follows at 97th with access to 30 countries, while Syria is at 98th with 27 destinations.
