US based United Airlines ground all flights over technology snag, thousands affected
PTC News Desk: United Airlines temporarily grounded all of its mainline flights due to a system-related technical glitch, disrupting travel plans for thousands of passengers across the U.S. Although the issue was resolved within an hour, the airline warned of ongoing delays.
Frustrated travelers shared their grievances on social media as operations stalled at major airports, including Chicago, Denver, Newark, Houston, and San Francisco.
"The underlying technology issue has been resolved and while we expect residual delays, our team is working to restore our normal operations," a United Airlines spokesperson told CNN.
According to ABC News, the airline clarified that the disruption was not caused by a cyberattack. While the exact cause was not officially disclosed, a Reuters source indicated that a failure in the weight calculation system was responsible.
So far, 827 flights have been delayed and 23 cancelled. Following the outage, the Federal Aviation Administration imposed ground stops at several key airports.
Flights operated by United Express and those already in the air were unaffected by the disruption. Nonetheless, the delays led to widespread criticism online.
