PTC News Desk: Mark Carney, the 59-year-old Harvard graduate and two-time central banker is all set to succeed Justin Trudeau as Canada's next Prime Minister and Liberal Party leader. Amid Canada's continued tensions with the US, Carney has frequently mocked Donald Trump, at one point even likening the American President to the Harry Potter villain Lord Voldemort.

On Sunday, Carney was chosen as Trudeau's successor after party members cast their votes in a nomination contest. The 53-year-old departing leader resigned in January, following months of intense internal opposition and calls for his departure.

While Carney will take over immediately as Liberal Party leader, Trudeau will remain Prime Minister for an undisclosed transitional period.

Carney is a former Goldman Sachs executive. He worked for 13 years in London, Tokyo, New York and Toronto, before being appointed Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada in 2003.
