Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh is having a tough time to meet the promises that he made, due to state’s tight finances. On the contrary the expenditure incurred due to renovation of the houses of the ministers has come close to 10 crore rupees. Some houses needed a fresh coat of paint and crucial repairs, the cost of repair of the ministers and appointees bungalows has come to approximately 10 crore, the sources revealed. The large bungalow in sector 2 went under renovation and had costing a sum total of Rs 2 crore. Capt Amarinder Singh has a tough time, Rs 2 crore spent for house repair According to a senior government official, as soon as the ministers and the political appointees were provided with official accommodation, the Public Works Department was asked that the budget is restricted and so shall the renovation cost. The matter has been brought to the notice of the Finance Department and the CM’s Office. As the estimate of Rs 25 lakh was sanctioned for the same and the job has been done without getting sanctions. Demanding fiscal prudence in the fund-starved state, HC Arora, an RTI activist, said “government functionaries as well as political appointees should observe restraint in using public money.” Sukhpal Khaira, Leader of the Opposition, said. “Considering the state’s fiscal condition, bare minimum expenditure should have been undertaken on the houses.” PWD Minister Razia Sultana was not available for comments. —PTC News
