Delhi HC to hear PIL seeking Kejriwal's removal from CM post on March 28

PTC News Desk: The Delhi High Court will hear a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking the removal of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal from his post as Delhi Chief Minister on Thursday.

According to a recent plea, Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on 21 March in a money laundering case relating to the alleged liquor policy scam. Prior to Arvind Kejriwal's arrest by ED, the High Court of Delhi refused to issue interim orders protecting him from coercive action in the same case.

The petition added that following Arvind Kejriwal's arrest, Minister of Government of NCT of Delhi Atishi gave interviews to various channels on March 21, claiming and reiterating that Arvind Kejriwal will not resign from his position and, if necessary, will lead the government from jail. She went on to say, "Arvind Kejriwal was, is, and will continue to be the Chief Minister of Delhi; he will not resign," according to the plea.

The plea filed by one Surjit Singh Yadav through lawyer Shashi Ranjan Kumar Singh stated that Arvind Kejriwal's continued appointment as chief minister of the Government of NCT of Delhi following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the money laundering case related to the alleged liquor policy scam has harmed the Government of NCT of Delhi's credibility and image in the eyes of the general public.

The continuation of Kejriwal as Chief Minister of Government of the NCT of Delhi will not only impede due process and disturb the course of justice but will also result in the breakdown of the state's constitutional machinery, according to the appeal.
