Ram Rahim imprisoned for 20 years: All power show will now be behind bars
Quantum of Sentence finally announced, Ram Rahim behind bars Prisoner number 1997, the self styled godman Gurmeet Ram rahim convicted of raping two Sadhvis in 2002 will now serve 20 years of imprisonment, 10 years each for two rapes that will run consecutively, and not concurrently as was understood initially. This evening, the court has slapped him with a fine of 30 lakhs to be given to the court and 14 lakh each to both the Sadhvis. After 14 years the special CBI court Judge Jagdeep Singh pronounced him guilty on Aug 25. Sentencing of convicted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a rape case began at the Rohtak Jail today at 2:30 pm. The rapist Ram Rahim stood teary eyed pleading in front of the judge seeking leniency. 'galati ho gai maaf kardo, swachta me mera yogdaan raha hai' he said as per sources. The defense has asked the court to change the jail last minute. Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was sentence at 3:30 pm by CBI’s Special Judge-cum-Panchkula Additional District and Sessions Judge Jagdeep Singh at a makeshift court in the Rohtak district jail. There were 8 people in the Rohtak jail court. The court did not limit the defense to complete the argument in 10 mins, as it is the last chance for the defense council to put forth the argument. The judge was flown from Panchkula in a helicopter to Rohtak this afternoon. While the Dera supporters were not allowed to enter Rohtak as the Rohtak Range IG said. The Punjab and Haryana High Court on September 24, 2002, had asked the CBI to investigate the case against the Dera chief on charges of raping two ‘sadhvis' after anonymous letters addressed to then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the then chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court levelled the allegations. The CBI submitted a chargesheet on July 30, 2007. The court framed charges against Singh under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC on September 6, 2008. In 2002, Ram Rahim had told the court, “I am innocent. I had never raped anyone. Since 1990, I am not medically or physically fit to have sex with anyone. I am not potent.” -PTC News
