13 dead, 22 injured as truck runs into marriage procession in Rajasthan
A total of 13 people died and 22 others were seriously injured after a speeding truck mowed down a marriage procession on Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh-Jaipur highway on Monday night. The accident took place near Ramdev temple at Bandoli.
The truck was going from Nimbahera to Banswara. According to the eye-witnesses, the truck was passing on the highway when it hit them from the back at around 9:30 am. It rammed into the marriage procession moving on the roadside. 19 people were critically injured. People rushed them to the government hospital in Udaipur and three others were admitted to the local hospital.
Also, the bride and groom were among the critically injured. Police also reached the spot and started the rescue operation. The bodies have been kept in the mortuary for post mortem.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tweeted, “My heartfelt condolences to the grieved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of injured people (sic).”
The deceased have been identified as Daulatram (60), Bharat (30), Shubham (5), Chhotu (5), Dilip (11), Arjun (15), Ishu (19), Ramesh (30) and Karan (28).
The police nabbed the truck drives and booked him under relevant Sections of IPC. During the preliminary investigation, the driver told the police that he couldn’t see the procession.
