18th Asian Games: Silver, bronze medals galore for India

As the 18th Asian games enter it second and final week, India continued to add to its silver and bronze medals tally maintaining its overall position at number nine.

Young and energetic track stars Dutee Chand (10 metres) and Hina Das (400 metres) in women's section and Yahiya Muhammad Anas (400 m) in men's section gave India a lot to cheer about by winning Silver medals in their respective events thus reviving India's interest in track and field.
After Tejinderpal Singh Toor gave India a golden start with a record heave in shot put yesterday, India's three silver medals are indications of country's come back in track and field where it once held the fort.
If one looks back, India used to dominate in throw events with great throwers like Parveen Kumar, Bahadur Singh, Gurdeep Singh and Jugraj Singh. Besides India also reigned supreme in jumps through stars like Mohinder Singh, Mohinder Singh Gill, T.C. Yohannan and Suresh.
But then there was a thaw and of late India has started a stage back. Young Tejinderpal Singh in shot put and Neeraj Chopra are the coming up stars. Similarly in track and field after Geeta Zutshi, Kamaljeet Sandhu and PT Usha, now is the time for Dutee Chand and Hima Das to dominate.
As the events unfold in coming days, India hopes to reap a rich harvest of medals as Seema Punia, Neeraj have their events coming up.
Other than athletics, India is now assured of at least two medals in archery as Indian teams, bot men and women, in compound event, defeated Taipei teams, in both categories. to advance to finals where they will challenge Koreans in the gold medal match.
India has already won medals in 11 disciplines, including two bronze medals in Bridge.
