After poll debacle in 5 states, Gandhis likely to resign at CWC meet: Sources

New Delhi, March 12: Taking the moral responsibility for Congress’ poor show in the recently held assembly elections in five states, the party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi, her children Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are likely to resign at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting which will be held on Sunday, said the sources. It is worth mentioning that this will not be the first time Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi would be tendering resignation. After Congress’s poor performance in 2014, both leaders had offered to quit, however, the proposal was rejected by the CWC. The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party's highest decision-making body, has been scheduled to meet at the party's headquarters in Delhi on Sunday at 4 p.m. This would be the first CWC meeting following the party's poor performance in the recent assembly elections which were held in five states - Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur and Goa. The party had previously stated that elections for a full-time president will be held in September of this year. After Rahul resigned from the top post following the party's poor performance in the 2019 general election, Sonia was named interim president. Earlier on Friday, the leaders of G-23, who have been demanding an organisational overhaul, had met at the residence of senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and discussed their strategy ahead of the crucial CWC meeting.
