110-year-old woman casts vote in Punjab Panchayat elections

As voting for the first phase of the Punjab Panchayat elections is underway, a 110-year-old woman, Puro Devi cast her vote at a polling station in Gurdaspur district. The 110 year old woman was helped by her son and daughter in law to exercise her franchise.

The polling remained peaceful in the initial four hours with no reports of violence received.According to a official, the polling is likely to pick up as the day advances.

The voting began at 8 am and will conclude at 4 PM on Sunday. A total number of 17,268 polling booths has been set up across the state.The results of the Punjab Panchayat elections will be announces in the evening.

Around 8000 candidates are contesting for the post of sarpanchas and panches in the state.
