Death sentence of Rajoana in Beant Singh case not commuted: Amit Shah in Lok Sabha

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Tuesday, said in the Lok Sabha that the death sentence of Balwant Singh Rajoana has not been commuted. Rajoana is a convict in the assassination case of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. Shah made the statement while addressing Parliamentarians in the Lower House.

He urged MPs not to go by media reports according to which the Home Ministry recommended commuting of Rajoana’s death sentence, the communication for which was sent to the Chandigarh administration and Punjab government.

He made the remarks after the issue was raised by Congress member and grandson of late Beant Singh, Ravneet Singh Bittu during question hour in Lok Sabha. Demanding death sentence for those accused of heinous crimes against women, Bittu raised the issue of Rajoana’s death sentence being commuted.
