TN Police arrest YouTuber Savukku Shankar over defamatory remarks against women cops
PTC News Desk: Savukku Shankar, a popular Tamil YouTuber, was arrested by Coimbatore police on Saturday for allegedly making defamatory and objectionable remarks about women police officers.
Shankhar was arrested in Theni by the Coimbatore Police's cybercrime wing and will be brought to Coimbatore for further questioning.
A woman sub-inspector of the police filed the complaint that led to the arrest.
According to Coimbatore Police, the YouTuber has been charged under Sections 294(b) (obscene acts and songs), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the IPC, Section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, and Section 67 of Information Technology Act of 2000.
Shankhar allegedly made offensive remarks during a recent internet interview.
Furthermore, media reports stated that the police vehicle taking Shankar to Coimbatore met a minor accident at Dharapuram. The incident resulted in minor injuries for the YouTuber and two police officers on board the vehicle.
