Goa imposes restrictions for party-goers, revellers; know more

Panaji: Amid the rising Covid cases and the threat of Omicron, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said now only fully vaccinated or those carrying a Covid-19 negative report would be allowed to attend parties or enter restaurants in the coastal state.A detailed notification in this regard would be issued by Wednesday evening.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the organisers of various events in the state would have to ensure that the guests carried these certificates.

On Tuesday, the Goa Government decided not to impose night curfew in the coastal state for now so that the tourism business amid the Christmas-New Year festival season is not affected.

Sawant had said the government was keeping a close watch on the Covid-19 positivity rate and stringent decisions would be taken during the meeting of the task force scheduled to be held on January 3 if this rate registers an uptick.

Ahead of the New Year celebration, there is 90 per cent occupancy in hotels in the state, while beaches are already overcrowded.

Chartered flights from the UK have started arriving in the state, after a nearly year-long gap due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Tuesday, Goa reported a sudden spike in Covid cases with 112 persons testing positive for the infection. On Monday, the coastal state had recorded 67 cases.
