Apache helicopters arrive at Hindon Airbase, Army calls it a milestone moment
AH-64E Apache is best known for its battlefield versatility, precision strike capabilities & night-combat readiness
PTC Web Desk: The Indian Army marked a major step in its modernisation drive as the first batch of AH-64E Apache attack helicopters landed at Hindon Airbase this morning. Transported from the United States in a military cargo aircraft, these state-of-the-art combat machines are now set to undergo assembly and technical checks before being inducted into active service.
According to sources familiar with the schedule, the newly arrived Apaches will be flown to their operational base in Jodhpur once inspections and preparatory work are completed. The Army Aviation Corps, headquartered in Jodhpur since its formation in March 2024, has eagerly awaited their arrival.
Celebrating the induction, the Indian Army posted on social media, calling it a “milestone moment” in the journey of Army Aviation. “These world-class platforms will significantly enhance the combat capabilities of the Indian Army,” the statement read.
These helicopters are part of a $600 million defense agreement inked between India and the United States in 2020. The original delivery was slated for June 2024 but was pushed to December due to global supply chain disruptions. Despite multiple delays, the arrival of these helicopters marks a pivotal moment in India's push to modernise its aerial combat fleet.
The AH-64E Apache, known for its battlefield versatility, precision strike capabilities, and night-combat readiness, is expected to bring a technological edge to India’s defense preparedness, especially in tactical missions along sensitive border areas.
