Morning to cherish: BJP MP Raghav Chadha meets PM Modi, triggers buzz over active Punjab role
The meeting took place at a time when the BJP has increased its political activities in Punjab ahead of the Assembly elections.
PTC News Desk: BJP MP Raghav Chadha on Saturday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg and discussed the prevailing. The meeting came a day after Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal met PM Modi.
Raghav described the meeting as "a morning to cherish".
"Had the privilege of meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A detailed and enriching interaction. Deeply grateful for his generous time and for the opportunity to benefit from his insights and guidance," Chadha said.
The meeting took place at a time when the BJP has increased its political activities in Punjab ahead of the Assembly elections.
Raghav Chadha, who represents Punjab in the Rajya Sabha and has family roots in Jalandhar, is expected to take on an important role for the BJP in the state.
Chadha had been associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) since its early days. However, in April, he joined the BJP along with six other MPs, six of whom were from Punjab. His move caused a major political shift in the state.
Chadha was once considered a key AAP leader and was even described as the "de facto Chief Minister" of Punjab. Although he did not contest the 2022 Assembly elections, he played an important role behind the scenes as a strategist and helped the AAP secure a historic victory in Punjab.
Now that he is with the BJP, Chadha is expected to have a more active role in the upcoming Punjab elections.
His understanding of Punjab's political and electoral landscape, along with his appeal among urban voters, could help the BJP increase its support in cities such as Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar. The BJP has faced difficulties in attracting business and middle-class voters in Punjab, particularly after ending its alliance with the SAD.
Interestingly, Chadha's meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi came a day after SAD leader Sukhbir Singh Badal also met Modi on Friday. The back-to-back meetings have led to speculation that the BJP could be considering renewing its alliance with its former partner.
