Commercial LPG cylinder prices hiked by Rs 195 amid global energy crisis; check rates today in Delhi, Mumbai
Price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder now stands at Rs 2,078.50 and Rs 2,031 in Delhi and Mumbai, respectively.
Commercial LPG cylinder prices hiked: In a significant development, the state-owned oil companies announced a significant hike in the price of 19-kg commercial cylinders and 5-kg mini cylinders on Wednesday. Prices for 5-kg mini cylinders have risen by Rs 51, while 19-kg commercial cylinders saw a steeper hike, ranging from Rs 195 to Rs 218.
Following the revision, price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder now stands at Rs 2,078.50 and Rs 2,031 in Delhi and Mumbai, respectively. Both cities witnessed a surge of Rs 195.5. In Kolkata and Chennai, the prices witnessed a steeper rise of Rs 218 and 203, respectively, bringing the new rates to Rs 2,208 and 2,246.
The increase is mainly due to the escalating conflict in West Asia, which has badly disrupted global energy supply chains. Since the war began, international oil prices have risen by about 50%, largely because the Strait of Hormuz—an important energy route affected by the conflict—has been closed.
This supply disruption, along with higher oil prices, has forced state-owned companies in India to raise the prices of commercial LPG cylinders.
The price hike mainly affects businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and industries, while household consumers have not been impacted for now. The price of a 14.2-kg domestic cooking gas cylinder remains unchanged at Rs 913 in Delhi, after a Rs 60 increase on March 7.
