PTC News Desk: The long-awaited Noida International Airport in Jewar commenced operations on Monday, with its first commercial flight arriving from Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport at 8.05 am, according to officials. The return service, IndiGo flight 6E-2279, is scheduled to depart Noida at 6.55 pm and reach Lucknow by 8 pm.

Visuals from inside the inaugural flight showed passengers applauding as the aircraft touched down at the new airport. In a symbolic gesture, one of the first outbound flights from Noida will carry 172 farmers who contributed land for the airport’s development.

Accompanied by Dhirendra Singh, the farmers will travel to Lucknow to meet Yogi Adityanath and express their gratitude, recognising their role in making the project possible.

The airport’s initial operations will connect Jewar with cities including Lucknow and Bengaluru, while also welcoming its first incoming flights on the opening day.

Looking ahead, Noida International Airport’s Vice Chairman, Christoph Schnellmann, has outlined an ambitious vision for the facility. The airport aims to serve five million passengers during its first year of operations, with long-term plans to expand capacity to accommodate up to 70 million travellers annually.
