Delhi building fire: Three killed, several injured as massive fire engulfs residential building
PTC News Desk: In another tragic fire incident in Delhi, three members of a family lost their lives and two others suffered critical injuries after a blaze broke out in a five-storey residential building in the Govindpuri area of southeast Delhi early on Friday.
According to police, the victims were identified as Pankaj (28), his mother Guddi (50), and his sister Soni (20), who lived on the third floor of the building. Emergency responders, assisted by local residents, were able to evacuate occupants from the other floors in time, preventing further casualties.
Two other family members — Pankaj's younger sister Moni (18) and his 70-year-old maternal grandmother — sustained severe injuries and are currently undergoing treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit on the ground floor of the building. Authorities are continuing their inquiry to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The tragedy comes just a week after a major fire at a bed-and-breakfast hotel in the Malviya Nagar area of south Delhi claimed at least 21 lives. Several of the victims in that incident were foreign nationals, primarily from Central Asian and African countries.
The latest fire has once again raised concerns about fire safety standards and electrical infrastructure in residential buildings across the national capital.
