Police raid TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee's Kolkata residence for over four hours
PTC News Desk: In a major early-morning operation that sparked a political controversy in West Bengal, a large police team, along with central security forces, raided the Kolkata residence of TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday. The action was carried out in connection with a case registered at a police station in Paschim Medinipur district, according to a senior police officer.
The raid came just two days after the West Bengal CID questioned Banerjee in an alleged forged-signature case related to the state assembly. He has also recently received summons from several investigating agencies.
Sources said police teams from Salboni Police Station in Paschim Medinipur and Kolkata Police reached Banerjee’s Kalighat residence shortly after 3 am. Central force personnel were deployed outside the house while police officers moved in.
The TMC claimed that police broke open a lock to enter the property. After learning about the raid, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reportedly rushed to Abhishek Banerjee’s residence.
The operation lasted for more than four hours. Police personnel remained inside the house into the morning, while several officers were seen entering and leaving the premises and holding discussions outside during the raid.
