Maharashtra: Man kills 82-year-old father on road after losing legal battle for house
PTC News Desk: An 82-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his son in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after winning a property dispute against him in court.
The victim, Jafar Qamaruddin Sayyed Patel, had been involved in a two-year legal battle to evict his son, Abdul Rehman Abdul Jafar, from his house due to his alleged abusive and violent behavior.
According to reports, Patel, a retired employee of the Water Resources Department, had frequent disputes with his son, who worked as a medical representative. The accused allegedly regularly quarreled with and assaulted family members. Distressed by the situation, Patel moved to his daughter's residence in Pune and later approached the court to regain possession of his property.
The court eventually ruled in Patel's favor, ordering his son's eviction and restoring ownership of the house to him.
However, tragedy struck shortly after the verdict. While Patel was returning home with his daughter after obtaining the court order, the accused allegedly intercepted the autorickshaw they were traveling in and attacked his father with a knife in public. Patel sustained fatal injuries and died, while his daughter was also injured during the assault.
Police have arrested the accused and launched an investigation into the case. The incident has shocked local residents, highlighting the extreme consequences of family and property disputes.
