Delhi High Court grants bail to British National Jagtar Singh Johal in 7 UAPA cases

PTC News Desk: The Delhi High Court on Friday granted bail to British National Jagtar Singh Johal in seven cases UAPA case. Johal is an accused in targeted killings linked to a transnational conspiracy allegedly hatched by the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF). Earlier in 2025, a Moga district court acquitted Jaggi Johal and seven others in the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case by granting them ‘benefit of the doubt.’Arrested in 2017British citizen Jagtar Singh Johal and others were accused of involvement in a series of targeted killings between April 2016 and October 2017, including the murder of retired RSS leader Brigadier Jagdish Gagneja.Also Read: Amritsar plunges into lawlessness: ASI shot dead while on duty, youth killed 50 metres away from police stationJohal, who is from Dumbarton, was arrested in November 2017, weeks after his wedding in Punjab. He has remained in jail since then and is facing trial over his alleged role in the killings of religious and political figures.Johal was also accused of being a member of the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF), which has been accused of carrying out attacks in Punjab.According to the charges, Johal travelled to Paris in 2013 and allegedly handed over £3,000 to other KLF members. The money was allegedly used to buy weapons that were later used in a series of killings and attacks targeting Hindu nationalist and other religious leaders in 2016 and 2017.Johal’s supporters, however, have disputed the allegations. They claim that shortly after his wedding in early November 2017, Punjab Police personnel in plain clothes abducted him from a street and took him away.They further allege that Johal was tortured in the days following his arrest and forced to sign a confession admitting involvement in the killings. These allegations have been disputed and form part of the wider controversy surrounding the case.However the Indian Government dismissed the allegations that Johal was subjected to torture in the custody of Punjab Police and said that due process has been followed in the case against him.
