Her husband Ankur, who works as a clerk with Ministry of Defence, struck her repeatedly with heavy dumbbell
PTC Web Desk: A 27-year-old woman officer of the Delhi Police’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit succumbed to severe head injuries days after she was allegedly attacked by her husband with a dumbbell during a domestic dispute in the national capital. The victim, identified as Kajal Chaudhary, was reportedly assaulted on January 22 after a heated argument over financial issues turned violent.
The police said her husband, Ankur, who works as a clerk with the Ministry of Defence, struck her repeatedly with a heavy dumbbell, leaving her critically injured. She was rushed to hospital and remained under treatment for several days before she died on Tuesday.
According to police sources, Chaudhary’s brother Nikhil, a constable posted at Parliament Street police station, was on a phone call with her at the time of the incident. He alleged that during the call, Ankur began attacking her and could be heard assaulting her. Shortly after, Ankur allegedly called him back and admitted to the violent act.
The victim’s family has also accused her in-laws of prolonged harassment. Nikhil claimed that her sister was subjected to repeated mental and physical harassment by her mother-in-law and two sisters-in-law over dowry-related demands.
A case of murder has been registered against Ankur, who has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The police said further investigation is underway, including scrutiny of domestic abuse allegations and statements from family members.
Kajal Chaudhary joined the Delhi Police in 2022 and was serving as a commando in the elite SWAT unit. She married Ankur in 2023. The couple is survived by their one-and-a-half-year-old son.
