Snowfall disrupts air traffic: Around 50 flights cancelled at Srinagar airport, tourists stranded

PTC Web Desk: Flight operations at Srinagar International Airport were severely hit on Tuesday as fresh snowfall across the Kashmir Valley forced airlines to cancel nearly 50 flights, officials said.

According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), adverse weather conditions and continuous snowfall at the airport led to the suspension of most scheduled services for the day. The cancellations included 25 incoming and 25 outgoing flights.

Airport officials said four additional flights were expected to land in Srinagar later in the day, but their operations appeared uncertain due to poor visibility and ongoing snowfall.

Passengers have been advised to remain in contact with their respective airlines for real-time updates, rebooking options and alternative travel arrangements, an AAI official said.

The large-scale cancellations have caused inconvenience to hundreds of travellers, including tourists who were planning to return home after spending the weekend and the Republic Day holiday in the Valley. Many passengers were seen waiting at the airport and nearby hotels amid uncertainty over resumption of services.

Authorities said flight operations would resume only after weather conditions improve and the runway is declared safe for aircraft movement.
