PTC News Desk: The last rites of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Ajit Pawar will be conducted with full state honours at 11 am today in Baramati, according to the General Administration Department (Protocol).

On Wednesday evening, Pawar’s mortal remains were taken to the Vidya Pratishtan campus in Pune district, where thousands of party supporters and local citizens assembled to pay tribute. As the flower-adorned hearse arrived, emotional chants of “Ajit dada amar rahe” and “Ajit dada parat ya” rang out, underscoring the profound sorrow among his followers. Police officials stated that the body will remain at the Katewadi residence until 9 am, after which it will be transported by ambulance to the GD Madgulkar Auditorium. The funeral procession will commence at 9 am and proceed to the Vidya Pratishtan ground, where the cremation with state honours will take place.

Earlier, Pawar’s body was kept at a medical college in Baramati before being taken in a procession to the Pawar family’s educational institution. Large crowds lined the streets, with many overcome with emotion as the cortege moved through the town closely linked to the influential Pawar family.

Ajit Pawar (66), along with four others, lost his life on Wednesday morning when a chartered aircraft crashed just 200 metres from the end of the tabletop runway at Baramati airport. The unexpected demise of the veteran leader, widely known as ‘Dada’, has left a major political void in Maharashtra’s BJP-led ruling alliance and cast uncertainty over the future of the Nationalist Congress Party under his leadership.
