The pilots of the ill-fated aircraft were Sumit Kapur and Sambhavi Pathak. Both died in the accident.
A top official of the jet operator, VSR Ventures Private Limited, said the aircraft involved in the crash that killed Ajay P was “100 per cent safe” and that the crew was “fairly experienced.”
Maharashtra was plunged into grief on Wednesday after Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was killed in a charter aircraft crash in Pune district’s Baramati area, with Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi breaking down during a television interview and describing the tragedy as “heart-rending”, “extremely painful”, and “a huge loss for the state”.

"Deeply shocked and stunned by the suddden demise of Ajit Pawar! The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and his co-passengers have died in a disastrous plane crash at Baramati today morning, and I am feeling a deep sense of loss. My condolences to his family including his uncle Sharad Pawar ji, and late Ajitji's all friends and followers. The incident needs proper investigation," Mamata Banerjee said.

The plane carrying Ajit Pawar was a Bombardier Learjet 45 business jet.
Ajit Pawar’s family, including cousin Supriya Sule, has rushed to Baramati following the crash.

PTC News Desk: Several people were injured after an aircraft reportedly carrying NCP chief and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar crashed while attempting an emergency landing at Baramati airport. It remains uncertain whether Ajit Pawar was on board the plane, although reports indicate he was scheduled to travel to Baramati today to attend four key public events.
Footage from the crash site shows the severely damaged wreckage of the aircraft, with ambulances transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Authorities are still investigating the cause behind the emergency landing attempt.
The incident reportedly took place around 9 am, roughly an hour after the aircraft departed from Mumbai. Ajit Pawar was expected to visit Baramati to campaign at rallies ahead of upcoming local body elections. According to local sources, those injured in the crash have sustained serious wounds.
