Delhi's air quality worsens; temporary ban imposed on BS3 petrol, BS4 diesel vehicles

Delhi air quality continues to break records everyday, forcing authorities to introduce strict measure to mitigate effects

Delhi Air Pollution: Amid worsening air quality, Delhi has banned BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel vehicles till Friday (January 13). 

The ban on the plying of BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel four-wheelers will come into effect from Tuesday. Notably, the air quality of Delhi's air quality dipped to "severe" category on Monday.

A senior transport department was reported as saying," We are monitoring the situation with the Environment Department. The ban will remain in force till Friday ie (January 13).

As per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), Delhi’s air quality still in ‘very poor’ category with air quality index (AQI) reaching 353 on Monday.    

The Air Quality Index from 0 to 100 is considered as good, while from 100 to 200 it is moderate, from 200 to 300 it is poor, and from 300 to 400 it is said to be very poor and from 400 to 500 or above it is considered as severe.
