PTC Web Desk: The farmers’ protest at the Khanauri border has been suspended after the Centre invited the protesting farmers for a meeting on September 4.

Farmer leaders will hold talks with the Central Government, with Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also expected to attend. The venue for the meeting has not been finalised yet.

The development came after the farmers had announced plans to march towards Delhi in an unusual protest on Wednesday, including a call for a half-naked march.

55 farmers were stopped at border

The latest development follows a tense situation at the Khanauri border. Three days ago, a group of 55 farmers from Punjab had started their journey towards Delhi. They were stopped by the Haryana Police at the border.

Following the stoppage, the farmers held two rounds of talks with Jind Deputy Commissioner Vaishali Sharma. However, the discussions failed to resolve the issue.

With no breakthrough, the farmers announced a permanent protest site and began sitting on a dharna on the Punjab side of the border.

Protest suspended after Centre’s invitation

The farmers have now decided to suspend the protest after receiving the Centre’s invitation for talks. The protesting farmers are opposing the India-US trade deal and have been raising concerns over its possible impact on the farming sector.
