Foreign national sprays fire extinguisher at passengers on Mumbai-Delhi train, dies in police custody

The incident took place on the Golden Temple Express, which was travelling from Bandra Terminus to Delhi.

PTC News Desk: A foreign national died in police custody at Surat railway station after he reportedly attacked the passengers with fire extinguisher on the Golden Temple Express, which was travelling from Mumbai to Delhi on the night of Monday.


Police have not yet confirmed the identity or nationality of the man who died. He was believed to be around 45 years old. The Surat Railway Police have registered a case of accidental death and started an investigation.


The incident took place on the Golden Temple Express, which was travelling from Bandra Terminus to Delhi. The RPF control room received information that a foreign national was creating a disturbance and arguing with passengers in a general coach.


RPF personnel reached the coach and tried to calm him down by speaking to him in English. However, he allegedly became more aggressive and started fighting with passengers. He reportedly removed a fire extinguisher from inside the coach and used it to attack passengers. Two passengers also fought back as the situation escalated.


The Surat control room, GRP and RPF were informed about the incident. When the train reached Surat railway station late at night, around 15 to 20 GRP and RPF personnel were waiting on the platform.


After considerable effort, the officers brought the man under control, removed him from the train and took him to the RPF police station on Platform 1 for questioning.
