PTC Web Desk:  The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Tuesday revoked the stringent Stage IV restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR after a marked improvement in air quality levels.

In an official order dated January 20, the commission said the decision was taken following a review by the Sub-Committee on GRAP, which noted a steady decline in pollution levels due to favourable meteorological conditions, including an increase in wind speed.

According to the order, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 378, categorised as ‘Very Poor’, on January 20. Forecasts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and IITM indicated that AQI levels are likely to remain in the same range in the coming days, reducing the immediate risk of slipping into the ‘Severe Plus’ category.

However, the commission clarified that preventive and restrictive measures under Stage I, II and III of the revised GRAP will continue to remain in force across the entire National Capital Region. These measures are being implemented as per the modified GRAP schedule issued on November 21, 2025.

The order also stressed the need for strict vigilance by all implementing agencies to ensure air quality does not deteriorate further. Authorities have been directed to intensify enforcement under Stages I to III, particularly in view of the winter season, when weather conditions can quickly turn unfavourable.

CAQM further appealed to citizens to strictly follow the GRAP citizen charter and cooperate with authorities in maintaining improved air quality levels across Delhi-NCR.
