Diljit Dosanjh receives threat by SFJ chief Pannu over Khalistan flag row at concert
PTC News Desk: Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh has once again received threat from banned outfit Sikhs For Justice chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. He issued a video threatening Diljit that his groups will continue to oppose his shows in the US.
Diljit Dosanjh took a firm stand against pro-Khalistani elements during his Aura 2026 concert in Calgary, Canada, calling them out for displaying flags and asking that anyone causing disruption be removed from the venue. The crowd backed him, applauding his remarks.
“Jinne jhande dikhane, dikhai challo,” he had said, while pointing towards the protesters.
However, the incident somewhat overshadowed the deeper theme of his Aura World Tour 2026, which is dedicated to honouring the victims of the Komagata Maru incident and revolutionaries of the Ghadar Movement. Through the tour, Diljit aims to pay tribute to pioneers of the Punjabi diaspora.
Reflecting on the moment during his concerts and later on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he highlighted the emotional and historical significance of his performance.
Diljit noted that BC Place, where he performed, is located just about 2 km from Vancouver Harbour—the very site where, in 1914, the Komagata Maru (also known as the Guru Nanak Jahaz) was forced to turn back. The ship, carrying 376 passengers, mostly Sikhs from Punjab, was denied entry into Canada, making it a defining moment in the history of immigration and the Punjabi diaspora.
“In 1914, our people came to Canada for the first time, but they weren't allowed to enter,” Diljit remarked. “And now, 55,000 of us are gathered in a stadium just 2 km away. You didn’t allow us to come then, and now, here we are.”
Diljit paid homage to the revolutionary spirit of the Ghadar Party, specifically mentioning icons like Kartar Singh Sarabha and Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna. These leaders, who fought for India's independence from abroad, laid the groundwork for the Punjabi community's resilience in North America.
