Greater Noida: A morning meant for puja ended in tragedy in Greater Noida on Friday. A 40-year-old man and his 11-year-old son died after falling from the 23rd floor of a high-rise at Mahagun Mywoods Society in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar district, the police said.
The incident happened in the Bisrakh police station area. It spread panic across the society and left the family in shock.
The police identified the father as Randeep Patra, son of Amal Kumar Patra, and the boy as Aarav. Preliminary information suggests the two had gone to the balcony to pluck flowers for the morning puja.
While doing so, the child reportedly slipped and was left hanging from the balcony. His father tried to pull him back, but lost his balance and fell as well.
Bisrakh police received a call through a Police Response Vehicle (PRV) on Friday about two persons falling from a height at Tower 23 of the society. A team reached the spot soon after and found the father and son critically injured.
They were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared both dead.
During the initial inquiry, the man’s wife told the police she had left early that morning to visit the Khatu Shyam Temple. Before she left, her husband and son had gone to the balcony to collect flowers for the morning puja.
The police said the exact circumstances will be established only after a detailed investigation and all angles are being examined. After completing the inquest proceedings, the bodies were sent for a post-mortem examination. Further legal formalities are underway.
