Haryana gangster Manipal Badli gets 12-hour parole for wedding with Cambodian partner

PTC News Desk: Mainpal Dhilla, a life-term prisoner lodged in a jail in Haryana’s Jhajjar district, has been granted 12-hour custody parole to marry his Cambodian partner, Meta Chan.

Dhilla, a resident of Badli in Jhajjar, was extradited from Cambodia last year after being on the run for several years. He has been allowed to leave the jail from 8 am to 8 pm for his wedding, which will be held at a farmhouse near the jail.

The wedding has attracted attention because Chan is a Cambodian national. Dhilla reportedly met her after fleeing to Cambodia while he was out on parole. The two later began living together and have four children.

Chan has travelled to India for the wedding with three of their children, while their fourth child has remained in Cambodia.

Dhilla's criminal record

Dhilla has 22 criminal cases registered against him, including murder cases. He was serving a life sentence in Hisar jail after being convicted in three cases registered in 2007 and 2010. He has also been accused of killing a person while in prison.

In July 2018, Dhilla was released on six-week parole. He allegedly fled India the following month using a fake identity, travelling under the name Sonu Kumar.

After reaching Cambodia, he reportedly changed his identity and started a business there.

Investigating agencies later received information about his whereabouts. At the request of Haryana Police, the CBI facilitated an Interpol Red Notice against him in November 2024.

With assistance from Cambodian authorities, Dhilla was traced and arrested in July 2025. He was subsequently extradited to India in September 2025 and brought back to face the cases against him.
